Ours was not across the element. I am glad that no one here reported any problems, but I have decided I won't use it. Just toss the paper to the waste bin when done and your stove look like day one, even after two years. Be careful to keep the angle at about 30 degrees and do not push down. Cannot be applied to previous purchases and cannot be redeemed for cash. We were thinking about getting a glasstop, until I read that it could complicate canning.
I was surprised to see this old thread pop up. We had one break when my husband in his wisdom decided to try to slide it in himself with three people standing there to help. A few small steps will keep your stove top in new condition through years of use. It should be the consistency of pudding. I had been cooking on a 1962 Fridgedaire Stove for 35 years before this with no problems and then purchased the new Samsung stove in late 2018. While I greatly prefer cooking on a gas stove, I absolutely love the easy cleanup of the cooktop!! I was told I had to replace the whole cooktop, so I bought the same kind. That's what your helpers are for.

After just nine months of use my wife was making some mashed potatoes turn the stove off and as the pot and stove were Cooling she heard a loud pop. They lost me as a customer!!!! I sure do agree with both, but mostly the comment that Whirlpool is junk!!! I actually ordered our that same day, but I figured I would use the old broken one as long as I could.
The initial point of impact left a pretty deep mark, and there are many veins to the star-shaped break, so it's more than a small place where liquid could enter. A build-up of grease on pan bottoms can leave aluminum-looking rings or cause marks on the cooktop. I also use gently a razor blade covered in plastic on one side for scraping off burnt spills, then polish. You maybe calling the Fire Dept. I know I can't be the only person this happened to. The same is true of rounded edge stovetop griddles; some tend to rock, and heat does not distribute properly. Too much buffing can dull the surface, and the scratch may be too deep to repair.

But, I agree with others… the two previous black, ceramic cooktops I owned did not take this much maintenance. Lift the front edge of the glass cooktop and prop it open. The company says they cannot do anything because it is cosmetic damage.
Well, when I smelled something like a hot iron, I looked everywhere and finally saw it was the range. I just bought a Kenmore black flat top convection stove a week ago and while cleaning it, I see I have a light scratch the size of a quarter! The stove is only five years old and I bought a good one. Use the proper tools and safety equipment noted in the guide and follow all instructions. Be careful whenever moving cookware that is full of food, to avoid dropping it on the surface and breaking the glass. I also clean my sink with it…make it look beautiful… I have burner marks and had really bad build up from previous owners. Any burned on food particles are likely to cause damage to your cook top, as are rings or ridges designed on the bottom of a pan. Even if you never came close to the exposed element, a pot could boil over and the liquid could run into the element resulting in more parts needing to be replaced.
I am sick with all the money I spent just to have all this stuff for only a few years!!!!!!! My question: is it still safe to use? There is some potential risk to users of pacemakers and other electronic and electromechanical medical devices, e. Deep scratches can't be repaired. Clearly this is not a safe product and they don't care. The metal is coated in porcelain which can fracture, sending shards of ceramic across the room. I follow up with a stove top creme polish using a Scotchbrite pad, then wipe down with a paper towel. We didn't drop anything, it just swelled and cracked. Usually something dropped hard enough to break the glass on a cooktop will have an impact pattern in the glass with multiple cracks.
